Jessica Ann Simpson was born in Abilene, Texas on July 10, 1980 but she spent her early childhood in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. Her father, Joe Truett Simpson is a former Baptist youth minister and her mother, Tina Ann Drew is a former Sunday school teacher. Jessica achieved fame during the late 1990s as an American pop music singer and after a few years she starred in the MTV reality show Newlyweds with her then-husband Nick Lachey. Along with her music career, she started her acting career and ventured into the business of her own line of Dessert Beauty and Dessert Treat beauty products.

Although Jessica Simpson is one of a group of many young pop singers who have recently made their presence felt in the American pop music scene, she has her own individual style, which makes her different to the others. From the age of 5, Jessica Simpson has grown up in the midst of music. She recorded an album with a small contemporary Christian record label by working for three years but this record was not released as the label folded up.

Although her younger sister, Ashlee started her music career in mid-2004, Jessica has been singing since the age of twelve as a member of her Baptist church choir. The same year she applied for The New Mickey Mouse Club but was not successful. Her fellow pop singers Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake are stars of this club.

Jessica’s crocheted wrap, known as Jessica’s comfort wrap and designed by Argentinean designer Cecilia de Bucourt has set a new fashion trend in the U.S. Justin Timberlake also wore such a wrap during a Saturday Night Live takeoff on Jessica.

She preferred to tour with the Christian Youth Conference circuit performing with Kirk Franklin, God's Property and CeCe Winans and promoting her demo album rather than attending senior school. She earned her GED later on and during the tour, copies of her album were sold by her father after her performances. She was signed by Tommy Mottola of Columbia Records after he got a copy of her album and thought that she could become a great pop singer. Even till today her music reflects the Christian influence of her earlier days.

Jessica is starring in a reality TV show called “Newlyweds” along with her husband Nick Lachey. In this show the camera catches all that they do or speak. The camera has captured her fretting over a US$750 spending spree on lingerie and a US$1,500 Louis Vuitton purse camping. Notwithstanding these fashion faux pas, her usual style is contemporary classic for big events and when she’s not working her style is designer casual. She has now become a spokeswoman for Tommy Jeans (of Tommy Hilfiger fame).

She also appeared on a variety show, called the Nick and Jessica Variety Hour in 2004 with her husband, on the ABC. Simpson won three Teen Choice Awards for Female Fashion Icon, Hottie Female, and Female Reality/Variety TV Star for Newlyweds during the summer of 2004. The series won a People's Choice Award for Favorite Reality Show in 2005 but it was wrapped up immediately thereafter.

In late 2006, Simpson plans to release her next album, And the Band Played On, with Epic Records. This will terminate her ties with co-owned Columbia Records. Her second movie Employee of the Month is on the floors in New Mexico and she has signed her third movie, Major Movie Star. Her business interests are also escalating with her announcement that her shoe collection will be released in major department stores throughout U.S in February 2006.
